Thomas Patrick Becherer, 84, of Louisville Ky. passed away peacefully at his home on March 2,2024, after a long illness. Born in St Louis, he was the son of the late Loretta Mildred Shea and Thomas Joseph Becherer. He was a proud 1957 graduate of St Louis University High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Navy journalist for 3 years. After graduation from St Louis University, he began a long career in television news working as a news director at stations in St Louis, Baltimore, Detroit and WLKY in Louisville. One of his lasting accomplishments was bringing “Wednesday's Child” to WLKY. He ended his long career as Vice President of Conus Communications. He was a member of Phi Kappa Theta, and Sigma Delta Chi, journalism fraternity. He will be remembered for his integrity in journalism and as a staunch defender of the First Amendment. He was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 42 years. He always felt the need to help others who struggled with alcoholism and cherished the friendships he made in the program. His first and greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Donna Thirolf Becherer, 3 children and their spouses, Thomas Andrew (Becky), Michael Edward (Elaine) and Andrew Patrick (Kendall). He was a proud grandfather "Papa" to 5 grandchildren, Tate, Cole, Ryan, Izabel, and Thomas. He is also survived by his brother, James Becherer (Carolyn) and 3 nieces. He was loved and will be missed!
Funeral Mass will be 10 am Saturday March 16, 2023, at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, 2119 Payne Street, Louisville Kentucky. Visitation Friday March 15, 2023, from 4-7 pm at, Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews.
