The St. Joseph School District chose a familiar face for its new director of communications.
The district announced Wednesday that Bridget Blevins will take the job, effective Oct. 24.
Blevins worked in local media for more than a decade as a news director, anchor and reporter at KQTV. She currently works as the assistant news director at KSHB-TV in Kansas City. She has a bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State University.
“We are pleased to have Bridget Blevins join us,” Superintendent Dr. Robert Newhart said. “She is well-known, well-rounded and well-respected in St. Joseph, and she will bring her knowledge of the media, her skill with people, and her background behind scenes to help the district communicate effectively with the community, staff, parents, students and the board.”
Blevins will earn a salary of $85,576 per year, equivalent to step 21 on the district’s administrative salary schedule. The position previously paid $71,721 per year.
Newhart said the compensation reflected the district’s desire to adhere to a salary schedule for all of its new employees. The district had 28 applicants for the position, according to Newhart.
“We applied the same criteria that we would have applied to any other position and what we have applied to any teacher hires or recent hires,” Newhart said.
Former communications director Joey Austin left the district last week to take a job as media and community relations coordinator for Mosaic Life Care.
