Nexstar Media Group Names Mary Ann Johnson Vice President and General Manager of Des Moines, Iowa Television and Digital Operations

Native Iowan and Accomplished Broadcast Management and Marketing Executive Returns Home to Lead WOI-TV (ABC), KCWI-TV (CW) and weareiowa.com

DES MOINES, Iowa and IRVING, Texas – Nexstar Media Group Inc. (Nasdaq:NXST) announced today that Mary Ann Johnson has been named Vice President and General Manager of WOI-TV (ABC), KCWI (CW) and associated digital services, including weareiowa.com, serving Des Moines-Ames, IA (DMA #68).  Ms. Johnson will assume her new responsibilities immediately and report to Diane Kniowski, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc.

An Iowa native and accomplished industry executive, Ms. Johnson brings to her new role at Nexstar expertise in local and national sales management, local content creation, new business development and strategic planning across multiple media platforms. She began her broadcasting career nearly two decades ago as a National Sales Manager at KPTH-TV (FOX) in her hometown of Sioux City, IA (DMA 148) where she delivered excellence in client service and sales performance resulting in consistent annual broadcast revenue and market share growth. Her continued success ultimately led to her promotion to KMEG / KPTH General Manager, with the dual responsibility of serving as General Sales Manager of the stations. Under her four-year leadership of KMEG / KPTH, Ms. Johnson enhanced overall productivity, improved personnel performance and achieved outstanding revenue results across the stations’ local, national and digital advertising platforms.

From 2008 to 2013, Ms. Johnson served as Vice President and General Manager of KCAU-TV (ABC) in Sioux City, IA. During her tenure at KCAU-TV, she built highly effective sales teams that delivered effective multi-platform marketing solutions to local and national advertisers resulting in historic revenue and market share growth, as well as improved overall profitability at the station.  In addition, during her broadcast career, Ms. Johnson was a Senior Account Manager at KTVK (IND) in Phoenix, AZ (DMA 11) where she successfully managed top spending regional accounts.  Ms. Johnson most recently served as a consultant for the largest privately-held U.S. automotive group where she worked directly with 13 auto dealerships and 11 manufacturers to develop revenue-generating marketing strategies and initiatives focused on driving operating efficiencies.

Ms. Johnson earned her BS in Business Administration from Bellevue University. In addition to serving as President and Marketing Director of the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, she has also served as a Board Member of the Siouxland Advertising Federation and a Member of the Rotary Club. She also served as a Committee Member for a number of community organizations including, the United Way of Siouxland, Boys and Girls Home, Council of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence and Susan G Komen of Greater Iowa. She has also been an active volunteer on behalf of Junior Achievement, Child Crisis of Arizona and the Arizona Food Bank.

Ms. Johnson has relocated to the Des Moines market.
