Paul Brown Upped To News Director Of Northern News Now

After anchoring with Gray Television’s Northern News Now (the Duluth, Minn., region’s NBC, CBS, CW and MyNetworkTV affiliates) for nearly two years, veteran journalist Paul Brown has been promoted to news director.

Brown’s first year in the field was in radio in 1985, before moving into TV news in 1989 in Abilene, Texas. Northern News Now is his fifth TV station, having had long tenures at KTXS Abilene as news director, and at News 8 Austin, where was an anchor for 10 years.

Brown also served a term as president of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters. In addition, he led the journalism department at Austin Community College for 10 years, and is currently teaching journalism as an adjunct professor at University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Brown says: “I’m so excited because of the people that we have here in place. We need journalists in the future. So, to me, being a mentor, being a teacher, has always been critical.”

General Manager Todd Wentworth says: “Paul’s resume reads like the perfect news leader and the perfect news director. He’s done everything there is to do in a news room. And on top of that I just think that he is the epitome of a coach, and a teacher, and a professor.”
