After a quarter century as one of Central New York’s most trusted meteorologists, Dave Longley has been named assistant news director at NewsChannel 9 WSYR-TV.
Jim Teske – who has been a Storm Team meteorologist for more than two decades – will take over as Chief Meteorologist at the station.
Longley – an Oswego native who graduated from SUNY Oswego – will take on a leadership role in NewsChannel 9’s newsroom.
“I am thrilled to have someone with Dave’s knowledge and experience take on such an important role in our newsroom,” said VP and General Manager of WSYR-TV Syracuse Bill Evans.
In addition to lending his considerable experience in broadcasting, Longley plans on continuing to contribute to NewsChannel 9’s digital platforms.
“I’m ready for this change. It’s not goodbye. Instead, I’m turning the page to a new chapter in my life. I’ve spent over half my life here, and I plan on contributing for many more years,” Longley said.
An East Syracuse native and a Penn State graduate, Teske began his career as an intern at NewsChannel 9.
“I look forward to keeping with the tradition of bringing an accurate forecast to viewers all over Central New York and sharing with you all the stats and information that makes weather in Central New York so fascinating to me,” said Teske, who will begin in his new role on Jan. 1.
“I’m excited to have Jim take on the role of Chief Meteorologist. He brings many years of experience and, along with it, a passion and love for weather,” Evans said.
