Susan Schiller

Susan Schiller has been Vice President and News Director for the CBS duopoly stations in Philadelphia -- CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly 57 (WPSG-TV) -- since August, 2004. She joined CBS 3 as News Director in 2001. Schiller, a Philadelphia native and CBS career broadcaster, returned to her hometown from CBS News in New York.

Under Schiller’s leadership, CBS 3’s Eyewitness News team has been repeatedly honored with awards for journalistic excellence including numerous regional Emmy Awards for News Excellence and best Major Market Newscast. The news team has twice won the prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Overall Excellence Award for best news service (2007 and 2013) from the Radio-Television Digital News Association as well as the esteemed Joe Snyder Award (2007) from Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association for Best News and a national Sigma Delta Chi Award (2007) from the Society of Professional Journalists, among other honors. Schiller is also a national Gracie Award winner (2000) from the National Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television.

Before joining CBS 3, Schiller was a producer of the Eye on America segments for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, as well as a medical producer for the broadcast since 1998. Previously, Schiller was a senior producer for CBS This Morning and a news producer for WCAU-TV (a former CBS station) in Philadelphia and KMOX-TV in St. Louis. Schiller also served as the assistant news director for WCAU-TV from 1987-1990. Her experience includes two years at CBS Newsnet (now Newspath), where she launched the operation that provides daily feeds to CBS owned stations, affiliates, and foreign clients.

During her tenure at CBS 3 and The CW Philly, Schiller has expanded the Eyewitness News footprint with an Emmy Award-winning 7-9 a.m. broadcast on WPSG-TV as well as a 10 p.m. newscast.

Schiller is a graduate of Lindenwood College in suburban St, Louis, Missouri. She completed the foreign policy semester at American University in Washington, D.C., as well as advanced coursework in television production at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Schiller and her husband, John Martel, a senior sales rep in educational publishing, have two children, a son, Paul, currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, and a daughter, Elena, a college student.
