Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Milton E. “Milt” Schwenk passed away at 84 years of age on September 21, 2017 in Yakima, WA. Milt was born in Rapid City, SD to Elmer and Lula Schwenk on Christmas Eve in 1932! Elmer was a Methodist Minister and Lula spent her career as a 2nd grade teacher.

The family moved west to Yakima and Milt attended Sunnyside High School. A remarkable athlete, Milt attended Washington State University on an athletic scholarship, graduating in 1954. He spent 2 years in the U.S. Air Force in California. Milt met the love of his life Joann Dolores Miller at WSU and they were married in Spokane in 1956. They enjoyed 61 years of life together and brought two very special children into the world: Kevin Milton Schwenk of Yakima (1957) and Kyle Franklin Schwenk (1959) of Seaside, OR.

Milt taught high school history and speech, coached a variety of high school teams and at the college level during his teaching career that spanned Spokane, Colville, Wenatchee, WA and Missoula, MT. Later in life, he gained a Master’s Degree in Education and became a TV sportscaster, then Co-Anchor, and News Director for KNDO TV. In his last years of employment, Milt enjoyed working in Public Relations for Pacific Power and Light and then part-time as a travel agent in retirement.

Milt and Joann have been active members of Wesley United Methodist Church. Milt is a long serving member of Kiwanis and was a Rotarian. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, and traveling.

Milt is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Joann; sons Kevin and Kyle (Beth) and precious grandchildren Laura Schwenk and Kelly Schwenk of Seaside, OR. He was predeceased by father Elmer Schwenk and mother Lula Dobberstein Schwenk. The family wishes to convey special thanks to Brookdale-Chesterly Meadows and VMMH Hospice caregivers for all their skill and loving care.
