LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- WDRB text alerts are coming to an end.
Texts for breaking news, weather forecasts and school closings will end on April 10, 2024.
It wasn't an easy decision, but phone carriers have decided to charge tens of thousands of dollars more a month for WDRB to send texts. The move makes it impossible for WDRB to continue providing this service.
The good news is that you can continue to get free, real-time notifications through a different process. The WDRB News and WDRB Weather apps provide alerts for you to get the most up-to-date information, breaking news and weather forecasts from the most trusted journalists and meteorologists in Louisville.
If you subscribe to the JCPS alerts, you will still receive those on the WDRB News app.
How to download our apps:
Click here to visit our WDRB apps page on our website using your smartphone.
There are links for you to download the WDRB News and WDRB Weather mobile apps from the App Store or Google Play.
Once you download the app, just allow notifications, when the dialogue box pops up to ask for permission. You'll receive breaking news push alerts delivered right to your home screen.
Android and Apple users can turn on notifications in your phone settings. Just go to the apps section, navigate to the WDRB News app and open it. Go to notifications (banners, sounds and badges), then use the toggle next to "allow notifications" to turn on push alerts. You can even opt to leave the notifications silent, if that works better for you.
