Garry Kelly is out as vice president and general manager at WSLS (Channel 10).
“I’m no longer the general manager at WSLS,” Kelly said in a telephone interview. “That’s it.”
Kelly’s ouster is one of the first major moves since Graham Media Group acquired Channel 10 in a deal that closed in May. Kelly, 61, had been GM for three years after having been a news director in Birmingham, Alabama.
During Kelly’s time in Roanoke, Channel 10 brought back its weekday noon newscast, completed a $200,000 remodeling of its studio set and won four regional Emmy awards from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Emmys.
“I think we did a lot of good things while I was there,” Kelly said. “We raised the bar. Roanoke is a great city and I had a great time at the station. I learned a lot from the people I worked with and I will miss them. The station will be fine. You watch.”
