Longtime Dothan reporter and WTVY correspondent Ken Curtis retired Friday after spending nearly three decades in television news.

“It was a difficult decision but I’m not getting any younger. The hardest part of my decision is leaving my colleagues at WTVY. They are a tremendous group of co-workers that I also consider friends,” Curtis said.

His broadcast career began spanned nearly 50 years, none more rewarding, he says, than the last two at WTVY.

“They gave me the opportunity to return to my reporting roots and I had a blast covering many of the big stories of the day. Spencer Bienvenu (WTVY V.P./G.M.) and our news director, April Davis, are dynamic people personally and professionally,” Ken said.

However, Ken said the most important people are the viewers. “Without them, we would be nothing, we wouldn’t even be here.”

He also thanked the behind the scenes people at the station. “Viewers see us on television but don’t realize how many people they don’t see that make our broadcast possible. Our production team, sales staff, engineering department, promotions, the administrative staff all keep us going. They are my heroes.”

While Ken is retiring from news, he will stay involved in the broadcast industry on a limited basis and will remain a proud member of the Dothan community.
