Tuesday, July 3, 2018 UPDATE: Funeral services for TOM PETNER will be held this Friday, July 6th, at a funeral home in Freehold Township, NJ. We told you last weekend that Tom died Sunday, July 1st, of cancer at the age of 71. Tom served as a news director in New York and Pittsburgh, taught at Temple (his alma mater) and other universities, edited the Shoptalk newsletter, and later started his own blog, the 24/7 Newsroom. Here’s his farewell from January 31, 2013, when he shut down the newsletter. Wednesday, June 6, 2018 UPDATE: Greetings: Another former news director gets (in his case) another general manager job, and this one at one of the best regarded stations in the country. JOEL DAVIS will be the next GM for WRAL/WRAZ-TV (NBC/FOX) in Raleigh, NC. He’s currently GM for Scripps’ KGTV in San Diego, a job he’s held since April, 2016. Joel previously had been station manager and news director for that ABC affiliate. WRAL’s news release announcing his appointment is here. Thursday, May 31, 2018 UDPATE: Greetings: It’s been a long time since we’ve done FOUR UPDATES in three days, but a new news director at a top ten market o-and-o warrants that. WBTS-TV, the NBC owned station in Boston (and branded as NBC Boston) just named BEN DOBSON as its new news director. Ben is currently the ND for NBC’s Hartford station, WVIT-TV.
