MARK GINTHER, who’s been the Executive News Director for Tegna’s KING-TV in Seattle for almost eight years, is leaving to return to Dallas/Ft. Worth as the next ND for KXAS-TV, the NBC o-and-o.  Here’s the memo sent to the staff.

Before Seattle, Mark had spent almost two years as the Assistant ND for WFAA-TV in Dallas. He’s a former news director in Des Moines (WHO-TV), spent six years at KSTP-TV in Minneapolis/St. Paul as the Assistant News Director, and had also worked at WCCO-TV there. He spent much of his early career in radio in Minnesota.

At KXAS, he replaces SUSAN TULLY who was promoted by NBC to become GM for the company’s WVIT-TV in Hartford/New Haven, CT.

KIRK VARNER will be the next news director for WSPA-TV, the Media General owned CBS affiliate in Spartanburg-Greenville-Asheville.

Kirk most recently was the ND for WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, a job he left in early July after 4+ years. He’s also been an ND in New Haven and Buffalo, worked in New York and Boston, ran newsrooms for ESPN and SportsChannel America, and was an executive for the Time Warner Cable news channels.

At WSPA, he replaces KAREN KELLY who left the station in June after three years as ND and 17 years at the station.
