I hope that the new year is better for you than 2008. (One imagines that it would have to be!)
Welcome to the first of our weekly newsletters for the new year, and there is a lot to tell you about, including an opening in a top 10 market and a handful of other moves.
In all, there are TWO new news directors to tell you about, and there are THREE new openings this week.
That leaves my count of open ND positions at 25.
We are re-running last week’s ad for several news management positions at an Atlanta station, and we have some Names in the News, too.
That’s below, after this week’s changes.
NEW NEWS DIRECTOR OPENINGS:
WCVB-TV, Boston, MA…COLLEEN MARREN has left this Hearst-Argyle owned ABC affiliate after eight years as ND. The Boston Herald quoted anonymous staffers at the station as saying Colleen could not come to terms on a new contract.
KLUZ-TV, Albuquerque, NM…ALEX BOSSCHAERTS has left the Entravision owned Univision station due to a layoff. I’m told the station plans to operate without a news director, at least temporarily.
KION/KCBA-TV, Monterrey/Salinas, CA…DENISE CLODJEAUX is leaving this Cowles owned CBS/FOX duopoly. Denise has been ND here for almost five years, and has earlier been an ND in Las Vegas and Eugene, OR.
NEW NEWS DIRECTORS NAMED:
WGEM-TV, Quincy, IL…CHAD MAHONEY will be the next ND for this Quincy Newspapers-owned NBC affiliate. He most recently has been the Assistant ND for KOKI-TV in Tulsa. Chad and his wife are both from Central Illinois so the move is a return home for them. Chad had previously worked as a reporter and EP at Springfield, IL, station. He replaces PATRICE JORDAN who was ND here for ten months.
KIDK-TV, Idaho Falls, ID…this Fisher owned CBS affiliate has promoted Sports Director TED DAWSON to news director, replacing TERRY MILLER. Ted’s been Sports Director here for three years in his second stint at the station. Earlier in his career he anchored sports for two different Los Angeles stations.

NAMES IN THE NEWS:
TAYLOR HENRY, former ND at KNOE-TV in Monroe, LA, has been named EP at WGNO-TV, the Tribune-owned ABC affiliate in New Orleans.
The new EP for WHP-TV in Harrisburg, PA, is DAWN HENSLEY. She had been a producer for this Newport TV owned CBS affiliate.
