Just ONE new news director opening to report, but it’s the result of a BIG promotion for a network o-and-o ND in a top 15 market. And there are NO new news directors to share. That leaves out count of open ND jobs at 24.

WOFL-TV, Orlando, FL…MELISSA MEDALIE gets a big promotion from VP/News Director here to Senior VP and Regional GM for the Fox stations in Florida which includes WTVT-TV in Tampa and WOGX-TV in Gainesville. She’s been the ND here since 2019 and has worked at the station for 17 years. Melissa started as a reporter in Syracuse. Her career history is here.

Obituary:
Comings
KLAS-TV (Nexstar/CBS) remembered its former news director RON COMINGS in this on-air tribute earlier this week. A nice gesture considering Ron left the station in 2015 when Nexstar eliminated his job. We told you last week that Ron, a six-time news director, lost his battle with cancer earlier this month shortly before his 78th birthday. He is survived by his wife KERRI and four children.

Nexstar filed a blistering 50 page brief in federal court against opponents of its proposed takeover of Tegna.
The New York Post has this story calling CBS News July 4th programming ‘amateur hour’.
And Variety has a deep dive on the mood at CNN as it awaits a possible takeover by Paramount.

IRE has a new executive director. JONATHAN KEALING joins from the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) where he was chief network officer. Jonathan’s complete career history is in the IRE news release. He replaces DIANA FUENTES who died unexpectedly last March after almost five years as the executive director.
Parker
Tegna’s WFAA-TV (ABC) in Dallas has a new assistant news director. KOLTEN PARKER moves across Texas from KSAT-TV (Graham Media/ABC) in San Antonio, where he was Manager of Coverage and Content. (The search is on for his replacement there, as you’ll see in the Paid Help Wanted ad above.) Kolten previously worked for the Texas Observer and the San Antonio Express News.
LARRY LAWSON is the new Assistant News Director for Hearst’s WVTM-TV in Birmingham, AL.

You learned above that MELISSA MEDALIE has been promoted to Senior VP and Regional GM of FOX stations in Orlando, Tampa, and Gainesville. She’s been the VP/ND for WOFL-TV in Orlando since 2019. In her new role, she replaces JEFF MALONEY who is retiring at the end of the month.
