As you might expect in a holiday weekend, not much activity on the news directors front, but have some interesting items for you.
Just ONE new ND and ONE newly named ND this week, leaving our count of open news director jobs at 21.
We have ads for TWO news directors positions (one a blind box ad), TWO new ads this week for EP positions in large markets, as well as a number of repeat ads for news management jobs in a wide variety of market sizes.
By now, most of you have heard of the latest station group purchase, but we’ll provide some a link to an article below. We’ve also got a link to an NPR story about a Louisville station that is promising not to hype ‘breaking news’. And in our GM Notes, we’ll share information about a 20 year North Carolina GM who passed away and the departure of a Kansas GM.

WHP-TV, Harrisburg, PA…DAVE BAER has left this Sinclair owned CBS affiliate, just three months after he arrived and just a few weeks after he was charged in a prostitution sting.

WCPO-TV, Cincinnati, OH…ALEX BONGIORNO returns to TV News as the next news director for this Scripps’ owned ABC affiliate. Alex left WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh last October after 3 1/2 years as ND there. She had earlier been an ND in Spartanburg, SC, and had worked in Tampa and Las Vegas. At WCPO, she replaces LANE MICHAELSEN, who left the station last March to become ND at WGCL-TV in Atlanta. In the interim, former Scripps news executive JEFF BROGAN was named General Manager here.

Other responsibilities include: providing coaching and training for producers; conducting performance reviews; coordinating scheduling of staff; monitoring the news product across all platforms to ensure quality control and maximize added value on the News 12 New Jersey website, infobar, and the 612 content (VOD) channel.
The Executive Producer will also be required to collaborate with the News Director and Assistant News Director to develop special segments and news programming, including but not limited to, elections and town meetings; troubleshoot issues and perform other duties as assigned.

Morning Executive Producer, KGTV, San Diego, CA:
KGTV, San Diego’s ABC Affiliate, is recruiting for an experienced Executive Morning News Producer. This position is responsible for managing the content and showcasing across multiple platforms, ensuring the station is dominant within the market.
Requirements: Must have a strong journalistic sense, knowledge of what makes news and what interests people. Must have the ability to meet deadlines and work with a wide range of personalities. At least three years of news line producing experience with a commercial news operation required, previous EP experience preferred. College degree required.

It’s old news by now, but the latest station consolidation involves Tribune buying the LocalTV stations. The L.A. Times (itself owned by Tribune) reported on the news here.

GM Notes:
Longtime WXII-TV (Winston-Salem, NC) GM RENNIE CORLEY died this week. He spent 20 years of his 43 year broadcast career as GM of WXII. That station’s current boss, HANK PRICE, remembers him in this broadcast editorial.
KSNW-TV (Wichita, KS) General Manager JOHN DAWSON has announced he’s leaving this newly-acquired-by-LIN Media NBC affiliate. He’s been commuting to Indianapolis during his almost four years as GM there and told the staff it’s time to stop what he called ‘the insanity’ of the long commute. John’s a former GM in Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne, and Birmingham and ran his own consulting firm.
