THREE seems to be the number this week, with THREE new news director openings, and THREE newly filled ND jobs. So our count of open jobs remains at 29.
TWO of those open ND jobs are included among FOUR Paid Help Wanted ads in this week’s report.

New News Director Openings:
Bradshaw
KVVU-TV, Las Vegas, NV…after almost ten years as ND for this Meredith owned FOX affiliate, ADAM BRADSHAW was fired on Wednesday (a day after the city hosted the Democratic Presidential Debate). Adam detailed his departure in this very candid memo to the staff. He’s a former ND in Salt Lake City and Rochester, NY, and has also worked in Los Angeles, San Diego, and for another Las Vegas station. His role as senior Las Vegas news director is now held by KSNV-TV’s MARK NEERMAN, who’s been there ten months.

WCSC-TV, Charleston, SC…JAMES WARNER heads to Seattle and KIRO-TV as Manager of Coverage and Content. James has been the ND for this Raycom Media owned CBS affiliate for more than seven years. He’s a former ND in Wichita Falls, TX, Ft. Smith, AR, and Lafayette, LA, and has also worked in Birmingham, Oklahoma City, and Wichita. KALB-TV, Alexandria, LA…KEITH WEISS is leaving this Gray Television owned NBC affiliate after almost six years to become News Director for WCYB-TV in the Tri-Cities, TN, market. More on that below.
Newly Named News Directors:
Turnbull
WSB-TV, Atlanta, GA…we first told you on Tuesday that MISTI TURNBULL had been promoted to News Director for this Cox Media owned ABC affiliate. Misti’s worked at WSB for 16 years, beginning as a producer. She’s also been Morning EP, Dayside EP, Senior EP, and, 3 1/2 years ago, was promoted to Managing Editor. Misti’s also worked in Denver, Colorado Springs, and for two stations in Norfolk. She replaces MIKE DREADEN who was promoted to VP of News and Marketing for TV for Cox.
Weiss
WCYB-TV, Tri-Cities, TN…as noted above, KEITH WEISS will be the next news director for this Bonten Media owned NBC affiliate. Keith has been the ND for KALB-TV in Alexandria, LA, since December, 2009. Keith’s also worked in Dallas, Tampa, Charlotte (two stations), Jacksonville, FL, Shreveport, Tallahassee, and Augusta, GA. At WCYB, he replaces JOHN SOARES who is leaving to move to California for family reasons.
Lopez
WHBF-TV, Rock Island, IL…MIKE LOPEZ has been on the job for about a month at this Nexstar owned CBS affiliate. Mike replaces HEATHER (VOUDRIE) STEVENSON who’d held that job for almost seven years. For the past few months, Mike’s been producing newscasts for WCCO-TV in Minneapolis. He was the ND for WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, WI for two years before that. Mike’s also worked in San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Norfolk (three times at two stations).

WAOW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin is searching for a veteran producer to help lead the Newsline 9 team.
The Executive Producer will be responsible for daily line producing the 5 p.m. newscast. Additionally, the EP will work to mentor producers and multimedia journalists. This position will also require a focus on contributions to our digital platforms. We are also looking for someone who can help with the “big picture” in addition to leading the day’s news cycle.
