Wednesday, September 26, 2012 UPDATE:

Due to travel, we’re a little tardy posting two UPDATES that we emailed earlier this afternoon.

Remington

In Phoenix, KTVK-TV News Director BRAD REMINGTON announced his resignation this morning.  He’ll leave the station after the elections and by the end of the year.  Brad told me it’s primarily a family decision.  He plans to return to Denver, where is wife is a principal at a private school.  They’ve been doing the commuter thing for the four years that Brad’s been ND for this Belo-owned independent station.  He’s previously been an ND  in Denver (KDVR-TV), St. Louis (KTVI-TV), and Albuquerque (KOB-TV), and earlier worked for another station in Denver.

Owen

In Cincinnati, WLWT-TV ND STACY OWEN is leaving to return to California as Assistant ND for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles.  Stacy’s been ND for this Hearst owned NBC affiliate for the past three years.  But she spent most of her career in California, including 14 years in a variety of roles at KRON-TV in San Francisco, three as ND.  And she was ND at KXTV in Sacramento for three years.

Greetings:

It was nice to see some of you at RTDNA this week. Kudos to Scripps, SJL and (apologies to those I’ve missed) other companies who sent all their NDs to the conference.

We have TWO newly named NDs in this week’s report, with FOUR new openings. Our complete list thus shows 29 stations with open ND jobs.

The demand for non ND news managers continues with SIX new ads for Ass’t. NDs and EPs in a wide range of market sizes. We even have a producer opening at the Weather Channel. along with a rare blind box ad for a Creative Services Director. (Help a friend and pass that information along to them.)

No taker again this week on our free Situation Wanted listing. If you’re looking for a new job, check out how you can participate below. In Names in the News, some management addition at a San Diego station, and TWO GM moves, including one involving a former news director.

New News Director Openings:

WWSB-TV, Sarasota, FL…GENE ROSS has left this Calkins Media owned ABC affiliate after more than two years as ND. Gene’s a former ND in Las Vegas, Jacksonville, FL, Fresno, Bakersfield and Albany, NY. His departure comes shortly after a new GM joined WWSB.

KTHV-TV, Little Rock, AR…CHUCK MAULDEN is leaving this Gannett owned CBS station after almost five years as ND.  Chuck will be at the station until the end of October.  He previously had been the News Operations Manager at Gannett’s KSDK-TV in St. Louis. He began his career as a photojournalist in Jonesboro, AR, and also worked as a photographer in Little Rock and Birmingham.

Newly Named News Directors:

Silverstein

WPMT-TV, Harrisburg/Lancaster/York, PA…veteran newsman DAVID SILVERSTEIN returns to the market as ND for this Tribune owned FOX affiliate. He’s been working at the Pentagon Channel as Assistant ND and Director of Marketing and Distribution. David worked with the Miami Super Bowl committee before that, and has been and ND at WAMI-TV in Miami, WMAR-TV in Baltimore, and WSYX/WTTE-TV in Columbus, OH. He began his career as a production assistant at WGAL-TV in Lancaster. He replaces CHRIS HOLDEN who left in June (after 3 1/2 years as ND) for a job with Magic Dust TV in Phoenix.

KOAA-TV, Colorado Springs, CO…it was announced Friday that DAVID RANDALL will start Tuesday as the new ND for this Cordillera Broadcasting owned NBC affiliate. He’s been a news manager in Corpus Christi and El Paso. He replaces MICHAEL LANGLEY whose last day at the station was Friday. He was ND there for 11 months.

Picken

WTVO/WQRF-TV, Rockford, IL…another veteran ND, SCOTT PICKEN, is joining this Nexstar-owned ABC/Fox duopoly. Earlier in his career Scott worked as ND for WREX-TV in Rockford with current WTVO GM JON SKORBURG. He’s a former ND in Omaha, Honolulu, Boise, and Fort Smith, and has worked in Green Bay and Kansas City. Scott replaces KENT HARRELL who’s being promoted to ND of a Nexstar station in Green Bay.

Walters

KNOE-TV, Monroe, LA…BOB WALTERS is the new ND here. Bob’s a former news director for WTVW/WEHT in Evansville, IL, a job he left in June after 12 years as ND for WTVW and one year as ND of the duopoly.  He’s a former ND in Clarksburg, WV, and has worked in Cadillac, MI, Austin, TX, and Carbondale, IL.  At KNOE he replaces MARLA GILCREASE who left this Hoak Media owned CBS affiliate back in December.
