First, a long vacant ND opening in the number one market has been filled by an internal promotion. AMY WALDMAN has been named news director of Tribune’s WPIX-TV in New York. She’s been at this CW affiliate for more than eight years and has served as Senior Executive Producer for more than a year. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 UPDATE: A veteran news director rejoins his former general manager in a surprising move just announced…and a name change for the part of the company now called Gannett. ELBERT TUCKER, the news director for WBNS-TV in Columbus, OH, heads west on I-70 to become the next ND for WISH-TV here in Indianapolis. The move reunites Elbert with WISH General Manager LES VANN: they held the same jobs at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati. Greetings: By my count, there are still 27 stations looking for news directors after a week that saw ONE new opening and THREE open positions filled. Of note: all three positions were filled from within the station. Also, we erred last week in reporting GRIFF BENNER‘s move to Assistant ND at WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, PA. That’s correct. Wednesday, February 18, 2015 UPDATE: Tribune Media has hired a former news director and CNN executive to be its Senior Vice President of News. BART FEDER, who’s run newsrooms in New York, Boston, Sacramento, and Jacksonville, FL, will start March 2nd. Bart most recently served as Senior VP of CNN, where he worked for five years.
