Greetings:
ONE new ND opening, ONE new ND to share in this week’s report. The newly hired ND is a veteran ND who’s returning to that job.
That leaves our count of open ND jobs at 26.
One of those 26 openings is featured in a new paid ad this week, and we also have ads for two EP openings.
There are a few news management moves to report in Names in the News, and an obituary for a longtime Waco, TX, newsman, as well.
One note…next week’s report is likely to be delayed due to travel to the annual IRE conference in Las Vegas. (While it’s late notice, that’s a terrific conference that you should make every effort to get to, if not this year, at some point soon.)

KTRV-TV, Boise, ID…KELLY CROSS has taken a job with an organization that promotes renewable sources of energy. He’s been ND for this Block Communications owned FOX affiliate since 2007.
NEW NEWS DIRECTOR NAMED:
WWSB-TV, Sarasota, FL…former ND GENE ROSS returns to the ND chair for this Calkins Media owned ABC affiliate. Gene’s a former ND in Las Vegas, Jacksonville, FL, Fresno, Bakersfield and Albany, NY, where he worked with WWSB’s GM, JEFF WHITSON. Gene also served as Assistant ND for KGO-TV in San Francisco. At WWSB, he replaces JASON WILDENSTEIN was named Interactive Operations Director for the Broadcast Division of Calkins. Jason was ND here for just under a year.

NEWS DIRECTOR, WGME-TV, PORTLAND, ME
WGME-TV, the highly rated CBS affiliate in Portland, Maine is seeking an experienced, hands-on, News Director with strong leadership skills and an aggressive style.
The News Director is responsible for managing WGME’s news operations, setting budgets, establishing goals and directing the staff for a news operation producing 41.5 hours of local news weekly. This individual will work closely with local and corporate management to establish news content, philosophy and direction.
The News Director will review daily newscasts to ensure quality control, brand compliance, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff. The News Director is responsible for recruiting, hiring and negotiating contracts for news personnel, as well as, initiating and managing content delivery on multiple platforms including web and mobile. This individual will also collaborate with other managers to develop marketing plans, establish and reach ratings goals.
Qualifications:
• A Journalism degree and a minimum of five years in news management preferred.
• Strong fiscal experience with operational and capital expenditures is required.
• Demonstrated success in building a winning news organization.
• Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy law as well as experience working in a union environment is strongly preferred

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED

- Coordinate the content and presentation across multiple platforms
- Enhance and support content with graphics, video and station branding
- Review content for multiple platforms
- Supervise pre-production to ensure quality and ethical standards and coordination between Control Room and design staff
- Supervise the writing of content, including but not limited to teases and web headlines
- Manage schedules, overtime and performance for assigned direct reports, including but not limited to yearly reviews
- Monitor web analytics on a daily basis to enhance user experience, site stickiness and engagement
- Post content to station’s web sites
- Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
- Create tactics and strategies to increase demo performance in key target areas for multiple platforms
- Have working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations
- Work with other departments to accomplish the objectives of the station
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree in Journalism or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Previous professional experience in television producing a main show; experience producing in a larger market preferred.
EQUIPMENT: Knowledge of newsroom computer system preferred. Computer-assisted journalism experience is also preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE: Valid Drivers License, and provide proof of insurability
SKILLS /ABILITIES: Excellent communication skills required. Strong news judgment is necessary. Must have a keen sense of logistics and the ability to work successfully in challenging situations. Must have excellent team-building skills. Must be able to motivate employees. Ability to work well with other personnel and the public.

OBITUARY:
Veteran Waco, TX, photographer PAUL OTTER lost his battle with cancer on May 28th. He was 53. Paul worked at three different Waco stations, including a stint as Chief Photographer at KCEN-TV, and worked with many young reporters and photographers. He’s survived by his wife and three children. More details in this obituary.
