December 13, 2014 UDPATE: Legendary anchorman BILL BONDS died this afternoon at his Detroit home of an apparent heart attack. He was 82. Bill spent most of his career at WXYZ-TV (then owned by ABC) in Detroit, but twice was exported to other ABC o-and-o’s in Los Angeles and New York. But he always returned to his hometown. The station led its 11:00 newscast tonight with this obituary and spent the first 45 minutes of Saturday’s 11:00 news on the story. He had many memorable moments at the anchor desk. Monday, December 1, 2014 UPDATE: News today from Memphis, where a veteran news director has left his job. KEN JOBE, who’s been the ND for WHBQ-TV for the last eleven years, left the station today, as did General Manager JOHN KOSKI. WHBQ was recently acquired by Cox Media as part of the station swap that saw Cox and Fox trade stations in Boston and Oakland/San Francisco. Ken’s been a news director in Detroit, Cincinnati, and for another Memphis station. He’s also worked in New York and Nashville, as well as an EP for another Cincinnati station. GARY LaPLANTE, who’s been the Assistant ND for Fox-owned-for-now WFXT-TV in Boston, is leaving to take the ‘BZ job. Gary’s been at WFXT for three years, and earlier in his career worked for WHDH-TV in Boston.
